About Craig
Your local Canberra Geek — friendly, patient computer help for seniors
Mon–Fri 9am–6pm
Hi, I'm Craig — I make computers make sense for seniors.
I’m Craig Plaister, and I’ve been working in IT for almost 40 years — starting back in 1988 writing software for small businesses in Hobart, and eventually making my way through Melbourne, London, and finally Canberra, where I’ve now been based for 20 years.
After spending years as a senior systems engineer and solutions architect for organisations including the Australian Government Solicitor, ActewAGL, Datacom, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, I launched Craig the Computer Geek in 2012. Since then, I’ve helped over 1,000 Canberra customers with everything from virus removal and PC repairs to home networks and cloud backups.
Over time I noticed the same pattern — seniors were missing out on so much of what technology can offer simply because nobody had explained it in plain English. No jargon, no rushing, no condescending attitudes. That’s exactly what I set out to fix, and it’s what the Seniors Guide is all about.
I hold Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Citrix Certified Administrator (CCA), and Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) qualifications — but honestly, the credential I’m most proud of is being the person my customers call when they’re stuck, because they know I’ll sort it out patiently and explain it in a way that actually makes sense.
When I’m not helping people with their computers, you’ll find me on the cricket pitch, the golf course, the dance floor (I love Latin dancing — zouk, bachata, and salsa), or out on a long run. I’ve completed two marathons and five half-marathons, so I do know a thing or two about patience and persistence!
